Ambience: Music & Light
'Mata
Hari' is Malaysian for 'Eye of the Day', meaning the sun. The illumination
in the room changes very gradually from clear daylight to the warm red glow
of evening. Two musical fragments are played: part of an Indian raga, the
music to which Mata Hari danced, and a fragment from an opera by Massenet,
'Le Roi de Lahore' in which she danced the solo ballet role.
